Intro AKINO, attachment

attachment

Intro Akino’s solo exhibition ‘attachment’ will be held at aaploit from 6 Oct (Fri) to 29 Oct (Sun). Akino works as a psychotherapist and also produces digital and physical works, which he also develops as NFT.

Akino started his creative activities with the painting therapy used in psychological counselling as a starting point. With this background, his work focuses on the multifaceted nature of people and their conflicts. In the course of making judgments and decisions in social life, we may struggle with the way we do not want to say things or with the reactions of others that we did not expect. Falling into loneliness, although it is better to be alone, can have more serious consequences than the destruction of relationships. What Akino describes may appear to be a multifaceted self-loathing or self-protection.

In introvert / Comprehensive Pathetic, a portrait of a male or female figure, a button is sewn over the eye, and the eyes are unevenly sized, giving the impression of being somewhat unfocused. Paint drips around the buttons, evoking tears. And the mouths of the figures are pasted on. The eyes of the button and the pasted mouth express emotional hesitation. Still, they have to engage with people. Akino calls it a conflict, but he finds humanity in it and tries to express the ‘moment of conflict’. He says: “I want to contribute to the viewer accepting their own conflicts as they should be, rather than abhorring them, and thinking about how to live a more productive and meaningful life, rather than a self-destructive one.”

A new work from the series “External Interferers” will be presented during this exhibition. The work will then be connected to an actual telephone line. As there is no dial, you cannot dial out from the gallery, but if you call 03-5684-0345, someone might pick up the phone. If you are viewing the work, please pick up the receiver if the phone rings.

This telephone number is only valid during Akino Intro’s solo exhibition. Please be careful not to dial the wrong number.

We hope you will take this opportunity to view Akino Intro’s solo exhibition ‘attachment’.
